Sickacca

Sciacca Ceramics Sciacca Town Hall Sciacca…. Valley of the Temples Birthday Bubbles… ???? Great start to a day…. Our washed away cycle route boardwalk.. Next stop… Malta This trip we’re being extra careful with Linda’s knee and trying to make cycles shorter and have more days off for rest. The trouble is when we plan a day off it’s usually accompanied by a walking tour of the city and 24,000 steps, which I’m not sure constitutes a day off! So we planned to stop in Sciacca as there’s not a lot to see, we’d found a nice hotel and just...

Muddy Sicily…

When the Greeks colonised Sicily they obviously has us in mind when planning the locations of their towns. They always seem to be about 40km apart which is a nice cycle, means you don’t have to get up ealry and gets you to your destination mid afternoon so you can have a brief look around. It’s also great for getting our fitness back and protecting Linda’s knee early on. So we’ve town hopped nicely down the coast. We’ve avoided the main roads as far as possible, cycled on a few dedicated cycle paths which in true Italian style, were new a few years ago and have...

Trapani salt pans Central Trapini Trapini Once away from the Palermo suburbs the roads quietened down and the villages became sleepy and generally closed up for the winter. Our first stop was at Terrasini at the Bakery BnB where the owner made us some fabulous breakfast muffins which which were able to have on the rooftop terrace. The town itself was chalk and cheese to Palermo. The cars parked properly, the roads weren’t lined with rubbish and the town centre had...

Palermo

After we had managed to find a restaurant for our first Sicilian supper, which turned out to be delicious, things didn’t start well on day 2 when I managed to lock us out of our bedroom when we went to breakfast, leaving the key in the door inside the room. In my defence, I’m an idiot. Anyway, the hotel were used to it and took the handle off the door so quickly it made you wonder what the point of the lock was! But after 24 hours here we think we’ve sussed the drivers. The people we’ve met are nice, kind, enthusiastic about us and just how we find most people in most...

The Godfather tour…

Nealy 6 months after we returned from our Reverse Camino tour with an injured Linda, we are off again.  The recovery of the knee has progressed well, it just takes longer when your not as young as you once were!  We have been able to cycle since we returned but nothing too strenuous….Yet! But now Linda feels that she’s fully fit once more so we are off…to the home of the Italian Mafia, which, to be fair will be a hellofalot safer than the USA at the moment even if they hadn’t just arrested the head of the Mafia here! We always feel unfit when we set off, but...
