The final countdown…

We rather reluctantly left the luxury of Atlantic City and began our final leg northwards by…. going south… err… the bridges out of Atlantic City in the north are fast wide roads and not our cup of tea, so we headed south to a smaller bridge that looked ideal to find that it was closed to cyclists and we could either head back north to the main highways or head further south still! Las Vegas of the East

Once back on the coast we were able to cycle almost in perfect isolation northwards. The chain of islands south of the Casino haven of Atlantic City all have toll bridges, only a dollar for a car, but enough to make people avoid coming over them and using the main coast road. This kept the whole road to us, and we didnt even have to pay a toll! Crossing our last bridge before Atlantic City we could see the skyscrapers towering in the distance. A Senior Moment

The cycle north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel is lovely – though we did meet some cyclists who couldn’t understand why we thought that! It’s very reminiscent of East Anglia, largely flat, fields of corn, few houses and little traffic. It’s a gorgeous cycle but the choice of accommodation is somewhat less due to the abscence of much worth seeing and people. We therefore had to stay in some very poorly rated hotels on the way up. The first was in the town of Nassawadox – a great name- and the only way we could find to get to it was by cycling the wrong way...
